Pakistan’s PM and Maldives President Resolve to Further Strengthen Bilateral Relations

DUBAI: Pakistan’s Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Saturday held a bilateral meeting with the newly elected President of the Republic of Maldives, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, on the sidelines of the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) in Dubai.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Kakar extended warm congratulations to President Muizzu on assuming office and expressed a commitment to further strengthening the bilateral relations between Pakistan and the Maldives.

The leaders pledged to capitalize on the existing goodwill between the two nations, focusing on enhancing cooperation in economic, trade, cultural, and tourism sectors through increased high-level dialogue.

Recognizing the global urgency of climate action, both leaders emphasized the importance of tangible outcomes in addressing climate change issues. They discussed plans to bolster mutual cooperation in combating climate change, with a specific focus on sharing expertise in the plantation of mangroves and other climate-resistant floras.

Cooperation Between Pakistan and Maldives

Prime Minister Kakar reassured President Muizzu of Pakistan’s full support to the Maldives, expressing a desire to contribute to peace and development in South Asia through enhanced regional cooperation. The leaders shared a commitment to advancing their countries’ mutual interests and fostering stability in the region.

President Muizzu expressed gratitude for the warm sentiments conveyed by Prime Minister Kakar on behalf of the government and the people of Pakistan. The meeting marked a significant step forward in the diplomatic relations between Pakistan and the Maldives.
