ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed improvements in airport services across Pakistan to better accommodate overseas Pakistanis, tourists, and passengers. He issued these instructions during a review meeting on aviation sector reforms held in Islamabad.
To address long wait times on international flights, the Prime Minister ordered the addition of more counters. He also called for the completion of the annual safety audit of the aviation sector without delay.
In a bid to boost tourism, Sharif emphasized the need for top-notch facilities at Skardu International Airport and instructed officials to develop a comprehensive plan for extending both Skardu and Gilgit airports.
The Prime Minister stressed the implementation of reforms and policy measures as outlined in the Aviation Act. He highlighted the introduction of automatic immigration gates as part of the automated Border Control System to enhance passenger convenience.
Sharif expressed gratitude for the positive direction of Pakistan’s aviation sector and was informed of structural changes, including the separation of airport management and civil aviation authorities to improve efficiency.
Furthermore, he was briefed on the expansion of counters and waiting areas at Lahore Airport and the forthcoming feasibility study for Skardu Airport’s expansion.
The Prime Minister has mandated that these initiatives be completed within a specified timeframe and emphasized the importance of transparency in the process.
