ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday said the silence of the international community over the ongoing Israeli barbarism in Palestine is a matter of grave concern.

The Prime Minister said this while speaking at a meeting of parliamentary representatives of coalition parties in Islamabad.

PM Shehbaz Sharif said the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh is condemnable. He said Israel has grossly violated the resolutions adopted by world bodies, including the United Nations Security Council and the decision of the International Court of Justice. He said the International Court of Justice has declared Israel’s oppression as genocide.

The Prime Minister said preventing Israel from this genocide is a big challenge for the modern world. However, PM Shehbaz appreciated the countries, which have condemned the ongoing Israeli oppression in Gaza.

The consultative meeting of Pakistan’s ruling alliance decided to observe a day of mourning tomorrow (Friday) in solidarity with the Palestinians reeling under Israeli brutalities following the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.

In the joint declaration, it was decided to perform the funeral prayer in absentia of Haniyeh in the entire country after the Friday prayer.

The Prime Minister declared the Israeli atrocities against helpless Palestinians a tragedy for the Muslim world.

In addition to expressing grief and anger over the 9-month-long Israeli brutalities against helpless Palestinians, the allies also expressed deep sorrow for the martyrdom of the Hamas leader.

Moreover, the meeting demanded the provision of immediate humanitarian relief to the helpless Palestinians as Israeli attacks continue.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch commented on the assassination of the Chief of the Political Bureau of Hamas Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, stating that targeting individuals inside sovereign states is a violation of international law and global norms.

The spokesperson maintained that such acts carry the seeds of further escalation and that it is yet another demonstration of indiscriminate and disproportionate Israeli aggression that has continued unabated to the detriment of regional and global peace and security.

The spokesperson said Israel must be held accountable for its transgressions and actions. “Israeli’s extraterritorial acts have endangered regional security,” a statement by the FO read.
