ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Caretaker, Prime Minister Anwar ul Haq Kakar, has directed the concerned departments and authorities to expedite their efforts to eliminate smuggling with a special focus on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
Chairing a high-level meeting in Islamabad on Monday regarding trade and ending smuggling in the border districts under the Afghan Transit Trade Agreement, the Prime Minister said that the government would establish special economic zones and industries in the border district to encourage dignified employment and discourage smuggling.
Kakar directed the relevant authorities to come up with a comprehensive plan to create employment opportunities for the people living near the border areas to make them socially secure and independent.
PM Kakar Reiterates to Eliminate Smuggling
Commenting on the mess of smuggling, the prime minister said that the entire nation was suffering due to the illegal trade and reiterated the government would leave no stone unturned to eliminate smuggling completely.
Kakar instructed NLC to complete its scanning and checking project at the Chaman border immediately, with further directions to FBR to resume its track and trace on a priority basis.
The Prime Minister also stressed the promotion of legal trade in the border areas while ensuring complete documentation.
