ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday invited Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to attend the International Conference on Climate Resilient Pakistan. Pakistan co-hosted the conference with the United Nations (UN) in Geneva on January 9, 2023.
The prime minister spoke on the telephone with the Amir of Qatar, PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.
PM Shehbaz thanked the Qatari Amir for the generous humanitarian assistance provided by Qatar in the wake of the climate-induced devastating floods in Pakistan earlier this year.
He recalled that Pakistan now faced the challenge of reconstruction and rehabilitation in a climate-resilient manner.
Climate Resilient Pakistan
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted that while Pakistan had utilized its limited resources to the possible extent, continued global support and solidarity were required to meet the challenge of rehabilitation, reconstruction, and recovery of the affected areas and to build resilience against future climate shocks.
The prime minister congratulated Amir on Qatar’s successful hosting of the FIFA-2022 Football World Cup, which had set a new benchmark for international sports events.
The prime minister and the Qatari amir also briefly exchanged views on bilateral and international issues of mutual interest.
