Pakistan’s PM Meets Iran’s Supreme Leader, Offers Condolences, Pays Tribute to Raisi

TEHRAN/ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, on a one-day visit to Tehran, on Wednesday met with Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and offered condolence over the death of President Ebrahim Raisi in a tragic helicopter crash.

During the meeting, PM Shehbaz hailed President Raisi as an exemplary leader, emphasizing his dedication to serving his nation and people. Referring to late President Raisi’s visit to Pakistan last month, he highlighted the crucial role played by the late Iranian President in strengthening bilateral ties between Pakistan and Iran. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to furthering President Raisi’s vision for enhancing trade and fostering stronger relations between the two nations.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif assured the Iranian leadership of Pakistan’s unwavering support during this challenging period. He expressed determination to deepen the bonds of friendship and brotherhood between Pakistan and Iran. He also extended an invitation to Iranian Supreme Leader Khamenei to visit Pakistan.

Supreme Leader Khamenei thanked the Pakistani government and people for their support and solidarity. He emphasized Iran’s commitment to prioritizing its relations with Pakistan.

Khamenei pledged to continue advancing President Raisi’s vision for strengthening ties between the two nations.

Earlier today, PM Shehbaz attended the memorial ceremony organized for the late President of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, who was martyred along with Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahian and other companions in a tragic helicopter crash on May 19.

The Pakistan Prime Minister also met with Iranian interim President Mohammad Mokhber and offered condolences on behalf of the people and government of Pakistan.

After attending the ceremony, the premier also visited the hall where the body of the late Iranian president was kept. The Prime Minister paid tribute to the late Iranian President for the development and prosperity of the Iranian people, the promotion of Pakistan-Iran relations, and his services to the region.

On this occasion, Shehbaz Sharif said that the government and people of Pakistan have been deeply shocked by the news of the martyrdom of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, and the Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahian and their other companions in a tragic accident.

“We express our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and the people of the Islamic Republic of Iran in this hour of sorrow and grief,” said the premier.

The premier said that was a great friend of Pakistan and that the moments he spent with the Pakistani people during his visit to Pakistan last month will always be remembered.

The Prime Minister expressed his best wishes for the acting President of Iran Dr. Mohammad Mokhber.

Earlier upon his arrival in Tehran, Iranian Minister for Roads and Urban Development Mehrdad Bazarpash welcomed the Prime Minister at Tehran International Airport.

This visit comes after the tragic helicopter crash in East Azerbaijan province that left President Raisi and other senior officials dead.

Earlier today, a huge crowd gathered in Tehran for the funeral prayers, bidding farewell to the late President, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahian, and his companions.

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei offered the funeral prayers for Ebrahim Raisi, the Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahian, and others.

Later, PM Shehbaz Sharif concluded his one-day visit to Tehran and departed for Pakistan. At the Tehran International Airport, the prime minister was seen off by high officials of Iran, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iran and diplomatic staff.
