Pakistan’s PM Meets Sri Lankan President, Cargill Inc’s CEO in Davos

DAVOS: Pakistan’s Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar met Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe on Tuesday on the margins of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

During the meeting, both leaders discussed ways to promote trade and investment between the two nations. 

PM is attending the 54th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani and his Sri Lankan counterpart Ali Sabry have agreed to further strengthen bilateral relations through the exchange of high-level visits and engagement on a wide range of issues, including trade and investment.

The resolve was expressed during a meeting on the sidelines of the Non-Aligned Movement Summit at Kampala in Uganda.

The two Foreign Ministers expressed satisfaction over the strength and vitality of Pakistan-Sri Lanka bilateral relations.

Jalil Abbas Jilani underscored Pakistan’s commitment to work with Sri Lanka for mutual prosperity and development.

Moreover, he also held a meeting with Brian Sikes, Chief Executive Officer (ECO) of Cargill Inc. -the largest private US global food corporation.

On the occasion, the prime minister stressed the immediate need to realize the true potential of Pakistan’s agricultural sector by increasing investments in its modernization and mechanization for achieving food security.

He lauded Cargil’s role in strengthening Pakistan-US trade ties and cooperation in the agricultural sector.

PM Kakar underlined the government’s initiatives for food security, particularly the innovative initiatives in the agricultural field under the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC).

Underlining the government’s measures to promote business and investment, he talked about the establishment of the SIFC, its steps to promote foreign investment in different sectors in a short period of time, and its positive effects.

Brian Sikes appreciated the facilities provided by the Pakistani government for investment in different sectors, especially agriculture and food security.
