ISLAMABAD: Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held meetings with world leaders on the sidelines of the 29th Climate Action Summit (COP-29) in Baku on Tuesday.
Shehbaz Sharif met with his Danish counterpart, Mette Frederiksen, to discuss ways to expand economic ties between Pakistan and Denmark through collaborative partnerships, state-run Radio Pakistan reported.
Both leaders explored avenues for bilateral cooperation in politics, trade, investment, agriculture, information technology, and climate change, with a special emphasis on green transition and infrastructural development.
During the meeting, the two leaders also agreed on the need to enhance bilateral cooperation and build global consensus on key climate change priorities to mitigate the harmful impacts of climate change.
Shehbaz Sharif also met with Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala on the sidelines of COP-29 in Baku, a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office said.
The two leaders discussed the longstanding and multifaceted ties between their countries. They explored ways to deepen cooperation, particularly in the areas of economic development.
Prime Minister Sharif invited Czech businesses to explore investment opportunities in key sectors such as energy, technology, and manufacturing.
Prime Minister Sharif held informal meetings with UK counterpart Sir Keir Starmer, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and other world leaders, Radio Pakistan reported.
During his meeting with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, they discussed cooperation on climate change and other matters of mutual interest.
With Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and First Lady Emine Erdogan, the discussion focused on addressing environmental pollution and climate change, as well as strengthening bilateral relations between Pakistan and Turkey.
In addition, Shehbaz Sharif met with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon. They discussed the conservation of glaciers and water resources in Central Asia and Pakistan.
The leaders also exchanged views on expanding communication links among Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
On the occasion, the Prime Minister also spoke with Nepalese President Ramchandra Paudel and Chief Advisor of Bangladesh’s Interim Government Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
They discussed the growing threat of rising temperatures, sea levels, and the conservation of forests in South Asia. The leaders also addressed ways to enhance bilateral relations between Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal.
Prime Minister Sharif also met with his British counterpart Sir Keir Starmer to discuss ways to further enhance Pakistan-UK cooperation.
Moreover, he interacted with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The two leaders discussed strengthening Pakistan-Kazakhstan relations and expanding regional connectivity.
