ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday expressed profound sorrow over the death of mountaineer Murad Sadpara.
In a statement, the Prime Minister honoured Sadpara’s contributions to mountaineering, saying, “The services of the late Murad Sadpara in the field of mountaineering will be remembered forever.”
He offered prayers to Allah Almighty for the departed soul’s peace and for the bereaved family to find strength during this difficult time.
Sadpara was critically injured on Sunday when he fell while guiding a climber near the summit of Broad Peak, situated in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of northern Pakistan. However, he succumbed to his injuries on Monday morning, a day after the Pakistan Army launched an operation to rescue him from the Broad Peak.
Sadpara was also part of a team that recovered the body of a porter from K2, who had died on the mountain a year earlier.
