ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar expressed profound sorrow on Saturday over the sad demise of Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah.

The Prime Minister, in a post on his official social media platform X, formally known as Twitter, extended prayers for the departed soul, saying Pakistan stood in solidarity with the Kuwaiti Royal Family and the people of Kuwait during this period of mourning.

Caretaker PM Kakar noted that the late Emir would be fondly remembered for his significant contributions to fortifying the diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Kuwait. Reports from international media indicated that Sheikh Nawaf passed away at the age of 86 after an extended illness.

After the demise of Emir Sheikh Nawaf, the State of Kuwait has declared an official period of mourning. Sheikh Nawaf assumed the role of Emir in 2020 following the demise of his predecessor, the late Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah. Born in 1937, he was the fifth son of Kuwait’s former ruler from 1921 to 1950, Sheikh Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah.
