ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday urged the concerned authorities to accelerate the implementation of agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Chinese government and companies, emphasizing zero tolerance for delays.
During a review meeting at the PM House on Pak-China cooperation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated China’s steadfast support for Pakistan in times of need, underscoring China’s commitment to expanding investments in Pakistan.
He highlighted that relocating Chinese industries to Pakistan would bolster the national economy, boost exports, and generate new job opportunities.
The meeting included updates on various projects initiated with Chinese collaboration. It was reported that the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway project would be completed under a Public Private Partnership model.
Furthermore, plans to send 1,000 students for modern agricultural vocational training in China at government expense were progressing, with the first batch scheduled to depart at the start of the academic year.
Furthermore, progress on transitioning power plants from imported coal to local coal was nearing completion. A business roadshow in Beijing aimed at showcasing investment opportunities in Pakistan was also announced.
A detailed roadmap for attracting Chinese industries to Pakistan, focusing on textiles, medical equipment, surgical instruments, plastics, and leather, was presented. The meeting noted that 78 Pakistani companies had expressed strong interest in partnering with Chinese firms for this initiative.
The Board of Investment (BoI) presented a comprehensive report and action plan, which was commended by the Prime Minister. He instructed relevant departments to facilitate Pakistani companies in their collaborations with Chinese counterparts.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Ministers, and other high-ranking officials, with some joining via video link.
