Pakistan’s PM Pledges to Establish Arshad Nadeem High Performance Academy in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday announced several significant initiatives to honor Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem during a grand reception ceremony at the Prime Minister’s House.

The Prime Minister announced a cash prize of Rs 150 million for the Olympic Champion of Javelin throw Arshad Nadeem.

Paying rich tribute to Arshad Nadeem for his huge success in the Paris Olympics 2024, PM Shehbaz said Arshad Nadeem is a bright example for all young athletes.

The Prime Minister said that the success of Arshad Nadeem provides ample proof that meager resources, difficulties and challenges are not the hurdle in the way of success. He announced the name of the Road between F9 and F10 sectors in Islamabad after Arshad Nadeem.

Shehbaz Sharif announced the establishment of Arshad Nadeem High Performance Academy at the Jinnah Stadium Islamabad, where athletes and players will be trained for the 2028 Olympics.

He announced a sports endowment fund of one billion rupees.

The Prime Minister also announced the award of Hilal Imtiaz to Arshad Nadeem for his excellent performance and for winning a gold medal for Pakistan in the Olympics after 40 years.

Earlier, Arshad Nadeem, his mother and his family members were welcomed by the Prime Minister upon his arrival at the Prime Minister House.

The Prime Minister warmly welcomed Arshad Nadeem and his family, personally escorting them into the Prime Minister’s House, where a special dinner was held in their honor.

PM Shehbaz Sharif praised Arshad Nadeem’s dedication and perseverance, noting that his achievements have brought immense pride to Pakistan, marking the first Olympic gold for the country in 40 years.

Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, also announced the launch of the Pakistan Sports Endowment Fund with an initial fund of Rs 1 billion.

The newly announced High-Performance Academy will focus on training and preparing young athletes for the 2028 Olympics, ensuring they have access to world-class facilities and coaching.

Additionally, the endowment fund will provide financial support for athletes, both during their careers and after retirement.

In recognition of Arshad Nadeem’s outstanding achievement, the PM announced a reward of Rs 150 million, with a promise that no tax deductions would be made from the amount.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged the vital role of coaches in an athlete’s success, announcing a reward of Rs 10 million for Arshad Nadeem’s coach – Salman Butt.
