ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday said that the security of Chinese nationals working in the country is the topmost priority of the government.
The Prime Minister was talking to Ambassador of China to Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong, during his visit to the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad.
PM Shehbaz strongly condemned the incident of firing on Chinese nationals in Karachi on Tuesday.
The Prime Minister told the Chinese ambassador that he had come to express his indignation at the incident and enquire about the health of Chinese nationals, who sustained injuries in the incident. He said it is a matter of satisfaction that the wounded Chinese nationals are recovering.
The Prime Minister assured the Chinese ambassador that those responsible for the unfortunate attack would be brought to justice. PM Shehbaz said that he is personally monitoring the investigation process.
PM Shehbaz said instructions have already been issued to provide the best medical facilities to the injured Chinese nationals.
The Prime Minister said China is a time-tested friend of Pakistan and such cowardly attacks on Chinese nationals in Pakistan are a deliberate attempt to damage the fraternal relations between the two nations.
The Chinese ambassador thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for his visit and expressed hope that he will play his role in bringing the culprits to justice.
On the occasion, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Raza Naqvi and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi were accompanying Prime Minister Shehbaz.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson on Tuesday reaffirmed the country’s unwavering commitment to the safety and security of Chinese nationals, projects, and institutions in the country.
In a press statement, Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson said two Chinese nationals were injured in Karachi as a result of a firing incident after a dispute with a private guard. The injured were immediately shifted to hospital and are under treatment, the spokesperson said.

“We extend our sympathies to the families of the injured and offer prayers for their swift recovery,” the Foreign Office spokesperson stated.
The spokesperson said the incident is under investigation. “Pakistan remains resolute in bringing to justice the responsible individuals. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in close contact with the Ministry of Interior and the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad,” the Foreign Office spokesperson stated.
Pakistan and China are close partners and iron-brothers, united by a bond of mutual respect and shared destiny, the spokesperson maintained.
