ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Outlines Strategy for Boosting IT Infrastructure and Foreign Direct Investment

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a new strategy aimed at attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) to bolster Pakistan’s Information Technology (IT) infrastructure.

During a meeting with a three-member delegation from the Asia Internet Coalition, led by Managing Director Jeff Paine, in Islamabad today, he outlined the government’s commitment to advancing artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure in the country.

Prime Minister Sharif emphasized his determination to position Pakistan as a regional leader in AI technology. He also highlighted the government’s efforts to ensure the delivery of fast and reliable internet services across the nation.

In line with the Digital Pakistan Initiative, the government is undertaking a comprehensive digitization of its entire system. A key milestone in this initiative is the digitization of the Federal Board of Revenue, which will pave the way for a digital economic framework and an automated system.

The meeting also addressed critical issues related to data safety, internet content regulations, and strategies for combating electronic crimes. Additionally, the delegation was informed about ongoing consultations with stakeholders regarding the draft of the Personal Data Protection Bill.
