Pakistan’s PM, Uzbekistan President Discuss Bilateral Relations

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar met with the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, on the sidelines of the 16th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit taking place in Tashkent from November 8 to 9, 2023.

During their meeting, they explored avenues to strengthen bilateral collaboration across various domains, encompassing politics, trade, economics, security, defense, and connectivity. 

The Prime Minister expressed his contentment with the increasing level of bilateral cooperation and emphasized the importance of maintaining this positive momentum. 

Pakistan Emphasizes Trade Agreements for Bilateral Growth

He highlighted the recent activation of the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) and Transit Trade Agreement (UPTTA), which are poised to enhance bilateral trade and transit trade while streamlining the Economic Cooperation Organization Trade Agreement (ECOTA).

Both leaders underscored their commitment to promptly finalize the Strategic Partnership Agreement, with the goal of advancing regional economic integration. They also reaffirmed their dedication to playing an active role in fostering regional connectivity. Additionally, the Prime Minister and President discussed their commitment to ensuring the timely completion of the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan railway project.

In their discussions, Prime Minister Kakar and President Mirzyiyoyev delved into the ongoing humanitarian situation in Gaza and exchanged views on various regional and global developments.
