ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated Pakistan’s full support to advancing the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s shared priorities and objectives while making it more effective as a collective voice of the Muslim Ummah.
He made the remarks while speaking to OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha in Islamabad on Friday, Radio Pakistan reported.
The Prime Minister expressed appreciation for the OIC’s principled position and consistent support for the resolution of Jammu and Kashmir dispute, in accordance with the relevant resolutions of the UN and the OIC.
Regarding the Palestine issue, he strongly condemned Israel’s genocidal campaign and emphasised the urgent need for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Gaza.
He called for the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people and global accountability for Israel’s well-documented war crimes and crimes against humanity.
According to the Gaza health ministry Israel’s relentless bombardment has killed over 46,006 Palestinians and injured 109,378 others.
The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the OIC Secretary General for participating in the two-day International Conference on Girls’ Education in Muslim Communities, set to begin in Islamabad tomorrow.
He highlighted that the initiative seeks to drive concrete and collaborative efforts to improve the quality of education and advance women’s empowerment across the Muslim world.
The Secretary General expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for Pakistan’s warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation. He remarked that the International Conference on Girls’ Education in Muslim Communities showcased Pakistan’s leadership on issues of vital importance to the Muslim Ummah.
Hissein Brahim Taha reaffirmed the OIC’s unwavering support for the Kashmiri people in their legitimate struggle for freedom and self-determination and briefed the Prime Minister on the organisation’s ongoing diplomatic efforts in this regard.
He agreed with the Prime Minister on the need for the OIC to continue urging the international community to secure an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. He also emphasised that resolving the Palestinian issue based on a two-state solution is essential for achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.
The two leaders exchanged views on various regional and global matters of mutual interest, including the situation in Afghanistan and the rising tide of Islamophobia worldwide.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, along with Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatimi, also attended the meeting.
