ISLAMABAD: President of Pakistan Arif Alvi on Wednesday granted a 90-day remission in the sentences of prisoners on the auspicious occasion of Eid Milad-ul-Nabi.
The President took the decision under Article 45 of the Constitution of Pakistan.

The remission in sentences will not apply to the prisoners of murder, espionage and anti-state activities as well as those convicted of adultery, kidnapping, robbery, theft and terrorism.
It will also not apply to the prisoners involved in financial crimes and causing loss to national exchequer.

The remission in sentences will only apply to male prisoners above sixty-five years of age, women prisoners above sixty years of age and those under the age of eighteen who have served one third of their sentence.
