Pakistan’s President, Army Chief Discuss Counter-Terrorism Efforts

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir called on President Asif Ali Zardari at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

According to a statement issued from the Presidency, the Army Chief congratulated Asif Ali Zardari on his appointment as the President of Pakistan and Commander in Chief of Armed Forces, expressing sincere wishes for a successful tenure.

During the meeting, the Army Chief briefed President Zardari on the Army’s ongoing counter-terrorism operations and emphasized its operational readiness against conventional threats. Moreover, COAS highlighted the Army’s contributions to development initiatives, particularly in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa regions.

President Zardari praised the exemplary role of the Armed Forces of Pakistan, acknowledging their vital role in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He lauded the Army’s efforts in promoting social development in affected areas and reiterated Pakistan’s firm commitment to combating terrorism.

Expressing concern over baseless allegations made by certain political elements against the institution and its leadership, President Zardari vowed to address such disruptive forces firmly.

President Zardari paid tribute to the sacrifices of martyrs, recognizing their role in shaping Pakistan’s resilience and strength. 

He reiterated the nation’s commitment to honoring the sacrifices of the Shuhadas and supporting their families.

The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of solidarity and determination to uphold the values of peace, security, and progress in Pakistan.
