The message comes in the wake of Sunday’s election runoff in Finland, where Alexander Stubb, who previously served as Prime Minister of Finland from 2014 to 2015, emerged victorious over former Foreign Minister, Pekka Haavisto, in a closely contested race. With all votes counted, Stubb secured 51.6% of the votes, while Haavisto garnered 48.4%.
Alexander Stubb, a center-right candidate representing the National Coalition Party, will assume the presidency, succeeding Sauli Niinistö, and becoming the 13th president of Finland since the country’s independence.
Following the announcement of Stubb’s victory, Pekka Haavisto conceded defeat, acknowledging the outcome projected by the Finnish public broadcaster YLE.
Stubb, who previously served as Prime Minister of Finland from 2014 to 2015, is poised to lead the country.
