ISLAMABAD: On the occasion of Youm-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir (5th August), President of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi, condemned India’s actions in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) on 5th August 2019. He accused India of attempting to disempower, disenfranchise, and dispossess the Kashmiri people in their own land, with the aim of permanently occupying the disputed territory and erasing its distinct Kashmiri character.

President Alvi emphasized that India’s efforts to convince the world that Jammu and Kashmir is an undisputed part of its territory are deceptive. He reminded that India itself took the Jammu and Kashmir issue to the UN Security Council, where the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir was internationally recognized. The council had determined that the final disposition of the State should be determined through a free and impartial plebiscite under the auspices of the United Nations.

Resolute Will and Courage of Kashmiri People

The President praised the resolute will and courage of the Kashmiri people, who have withstood India’s attempts to terrorize and subjugate them. Despite India’s coercive methods, the Kashmiri people have not wavered in their yearning for freedom. However, since 5th August 2019, IIOJK has been transformed into an open prison.

President Alvi called India’s denial of the rights of the Kashmiri people wrongful and illegal. He asserted that India must fulfill its obligations to the Security Council by granting the Kashmiri people their lawful right to self-determination.

President Alvi reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for its Kashmiri brothers and sisters, who have been making invaluable sacrifices. He stated that Pakistan will continue to be the voice of the Kashmiri people and extend all possible support for the fullest realization of their legitimate rights. He emphasized that durable peace and stability in South Asia can only be achieved through a peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
