ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized the urgent need for aligning government policies and stakeholder actions to safeguard food security.
In his message on World Food Safety Day, the President acknowledges the global challenges of foodborne illnesses and pandemics, highlighting the importance of prioritizing proper hygiene and fortifying food systems.
Under this year’s theme, “Food Safety: Prepare for the Unexpected,” the President underscored the challenges and uncertainties surrounding food safety. Addressing these demands anticipates risks in the food chain and implements robust measures to mitigate them.
Strengthening food surveillance systems, enhancing laboratory capabilities, and bolstering emergency response mechanisms are essential to detect and contain food safety threats promptly.
President Zardari also emphasized the necessity of stringent food safety regulations governing food production, processing, and distribution. He highlighted the importance of compliance to minimize contamination risks and advocated for promoting best agricultural practices to reduce foodborne diseases and enhance food quality.
Moreover, he stressed the significance of investing in research, innovation, and technology to effectively address food safety challenges.
The President stated that modern tools enable accurate hazard identification, facilitating targeted interventions to safeguard public health. Furthermore, he emphasizes the imperative of raising awareness through media channels about food safety and hygienic practices.

He called for a collective commitment to strengthening food safety systems and ensuring universal access to safe, clean, and nutritious food.
