ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s President, Dr Arif Alvi, said on Tuesday that the social and economic mainstreaming of persons with disabilities (PWDs) was inevitable for the progress of the country.
The president, in a meeting with a delegation of Chal Foundation led by Chairman Feroz Ahmed, said the needs of the PWDs could be met by providing assistive technology and artificial limbs.
He also called for measures to ensure the indigenous production of affordable and quality assistive technology and artificial limbs for the facilitation of PWDs.
The president also stressed practical and policy-level steps to make the PWDs productive citizens of the country.
President Lauds Chal Foundation
He commended the Chal Foundation’s role in the rehabilitation, welfare, and facilitation of differently-abled persons.
The members of the delegation apprised President Alvi of the measures taken by the Foundation for the betterment of the PWDs, including the provision of assistive technology and artificial limbs.
Moreover, he was told that the Foundation was also extending other facilities to differently-abled persons, including rehabilitation, therapy, and treatment.
The delegation also apprised the president of various projects being undertaken by the Foundation as well as the needs of the PWDs.
