ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday paid tribute to the legendary Kashmiri leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on the third death anniversary.

In a heartfelt message, the President praised Geelani’s heroic struggle for the rights of the people in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), calling him a symbol of hope and resistance.

President Zardari highlighted Geelani’s unwavering commitment to self-determination for the Kashmiri people, noting that his tireless efforts and sacrifices have left an indelible mark on the collective memory.

Despite facing house arrests and imprisonments by Indian forces, Geelani’s spirit remained unbroken. “His personal hardships, including years of confinement, did not deter him from his mission,” said the President.

The President said that Geelani’s legacy continues to inspire the people of IIOJK. “His leadership and steadfast opposition to oppression have made a lasting impact,” Zardari stated. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to advocating for the self-determination rights of the Kashmiri people, as outlined in relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.

Zardari assured that Pakistan will persist in offering moral, diplomatic, and political support to the people of IIOJK. “As we remember Syed Ali Shah Geelani, we must draw from his courage and dedication to freedom and justice. May Allah Almighty bless his soul,” the President concluded.
