Pakistan’s Prime Minister, UN Secretary-General to Co-host Int’l Conference on Climate Resilient in Geneva

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif will co-host, along with UN Secretary-General, the international conference on Climate Resilient Pakistan on Monday. The conference will be held in Geneva.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office said that the international conference will serve as a forum to mobilize international support for the Government and people of Pakistan to figure back better in a resilient manner after the recent floods, as Pakistan transitions from the rescue and relief phase towards the monumental task of retrieval, reconstruction and rehabilitation.

Islamabad will present the Resilient Recovery, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Framework (4RF) at the International Conference, and pursue world support and long-term partnerships for its enactment. The 4RF document includes the financial mechanism and institutional arrangements for its implementation in an open, collaborative and transparent manner.

The conference will feature a high-level opening segment, to be co-chaired by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. The conference will also formally launch the 4RF document. 

UN Secretary-General

Shehbaz Sharif and the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General will hold joint media talk on the occasion. Shehbaz Sharif will outline his country’s vision for rehabilitating the flood hit people and reconstructing the damaged infrastructure in a resilient way, with the support of development partners, and the Pakistan’s transition towards a more sustainable and dynamic economic progress model.

Presidents, Prime Ministers, Ministers, and high-level representatives from different countries and, Foundations, Funds, and Financial Institutions, as well as from international development institutions, civil society, private sector, and International non-Governmental Organizations will attend the conference.

The International Conference will assist Pakistan in forging a long-term partnership with its development partners and friends on the grounds of the 4RF document, and serve as a demonstration of world solidarity with the people of the South Asian country as they commence the journey towards rebuilding their livelihoods.
