Pakistan’s Prime Minister Vows to Provide Free Medical Facilities to People

LAHORE: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday presided over a meeting to assess the facilities for free medical treatment to poor people at Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) in Lahore.

On the occasion, PM Shehbaz Sharif said that the Hepatitis Prevention and Treatment Programme earlier started by PKLI should be handed over to the institute once again. The Prime Minister said that the focus should be on reforming the system to provide free medical facilities to poor people in the institution. He added the 50 % of patients should be given free treatment in the institution.

The Prime Minister directed that a fund should be established for the free-of-charge treatment of poor patients.

On the occasion, chairman Board of Governors of PKLI briefed Shehbaz Sharif about the performance of Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI). The meeting was also told that 41 per cent of the patients are being treated without any charges.

Caretaker CM Punjab Mohsin Raza Naqvi and Secretary Health Punjab Ahmed Javed Qazi also attended the meeting.
