LAHORE: Pakistan’s Punjab government has announced to launch of electric buses in the provincial capital at the end of this year.
Addressing the floor of the Punjab Assembly, Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar said that 27 electric buses would be operational on the roads of Lahore by December 2024.
Moreover, Akbar mentioned plans to introduce hybrid buses across various districts in Punjab.
Deputy Speaker Zahira Iqbal Channar presided over the assembly session where Akbar highlighted the implementation of a modern public transport system in major Punjab cities.
Earlier, on May 10, Punjab’s Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, inaugurated the Clinics on Wheels initiative. This project aims to provide health services to 4 million people through 200 mobile clinics. The chief minister emphasized the deployment of these clinics in densely populated urban areas to address accessibility challenges to hospital care.
Furthermore, Maryam Nawaz announced the establishment of advanced cardiology facilities in eight Punjab cities, including Mianwali, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Jhelum, Sahiwal, Murree, and Layyah. She underscored the government’s commitment to extending healthcare services directly to the people’s doorsteps.
