ISLAMABAD: State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Governor Jameel Ahmad said on Monday that Pakistan received a record $4.1 billion in remittances in March 2025, the highest monthly inflow on record.
The SBP governor confirmed that the surge in inflows provided crucial support to the economy, foreign exchange reserves, and liquidity for importers.
Addressing an event at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), he said this marks the first time that remittances have crossed the $4-billion threshold in a single month.
“Between July 2024 and March 2025, Pakistan received $28 billion in workers’ remittances, reflecting a 33.2 per cent increase from the $21.04 billion recorded in the same period of the previous fiscal year,” the governor said.

The inflow represents a 37 per cent increase year-on-year compared to $2.95 billion in March 2024.
Month-on-month, remittances rose by nearly 30 per cent, up from $3.12 billion in February 2025.

SBP governor projected that foreign exchange reserves would exceed $14 billion by June.
He added that while foreign debt obligations for FY25 stand at $26 billion, the government expects $16 billion to be rolled over or refinanced, reducing net repayment pressure to around $10 billion.
In a statement, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his gratitude to overseas Pakistanis for sending record remittances of $4.1 billion in the month of March 2025.
The prime minister said this is a 37.4 per cent increase in remittances as compared to March last year.
Testament to dedication
Referring to the Overseas Pakistanis convention in Islamabad, he said the record increase in remittances is a testament to the dedication, commitment and confidence of overseas Pakistanis in the country’s economy and government’s policies.
Describing overseas Pakistanis as a valuable asset of the country, the prime minister said they work tirelessly abroad, not only bringing pride to the nation but also strengthening the country’s economy through remittances.
Shehbaz Sharif said the entire nation is proud of overseas Pakistanis and the present government is fully committed to providing them with all the facilities.
