ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s security forces killed 10 terrorists in three separate encounters in the country’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Sunday, the military media wing said, a day after a deadly attack on a railway station in Quetta.

Two terrorists were killed in an intelligence-based operation in the Spinwam area of North Waziristan district, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Pakistani military’s media wing, said in a statement.

“During the operation, our troops effectively engaged the location of the khwarij, and after an intense exchange of fire, two khwarij [terrorists] were sent to hell,” the ISPR statement read.

In another encounter in the same area, security forces intercepted a group of terrorists attempting to infiltrate the country’s border with Afghanistan.

“Our troops effectively engaged and thwarted their attempt to infiltrate,” the statement said. “Two khwarij were killed, while two others were injured,” the ISPR added.

“Sanitization operations are being conducted to eliminate any remaining khwarij in the area,” the ISPR said in the statement.

Earlier on the same day in the morning, the ISPR reported that six terrorists were killed, and six others were injured during another intelligence-based operation (IBO) carried out in Spinwam.

“Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the killed khwarij, who had been actively involved in numerous terrorist activities targeting security forces as well as the killing of innocent civilians,” the ISPR said.

The security forces of Pakistan are determined and remain committed to securing its borders and eliminating the menace of terrorism from the country, the statement concluded.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which borders Afghanistan, has witnessed a number of attacks by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other terrorist groups mostly from Afghanistan targeting law enforcement agencies and civilians.

Earlier on November 7, four Pakistani soldiers were martyred and five terrorists were killed in a gunbattle in the Karama area of the northwestern South Waziristan district.

Pakistan has been frequently asking the Taliban administration in neighbouring Afghanistan to prevent its territory from being used by terrorist groups to launch cross-border attacks.

Afghan officials, however, deny involvement, insisting Pakistan’s security issues are an internal matter of Islamabad.
