RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s security forces killed 13 terrorists during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the South Waziristan district of northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the military’s media wing said on Wednesday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military’s media wing, security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation in the Sararogha area of South Waziristan district. During the operation, 13 terrorists were killed.
“Own troops effectively engaged the khwarij (terrorists) location during the operation conducted on the reported presence of khwarij,” ISPR stated.
The killed terrorists remained actively involved in terrorist activities against the security forces and killing of innocent civilians, ISPR said.
Sanitization operation is being carried out to eliminate any other terrorist found in the area. “Security forces of Pakistan are determined to wipe-out the menace of terrorism from the country,” ISPR resolved.
On December 21, a group of terrorists attempted to attack the security forces check post in the Makeen area of South Waziristan.
The Pakistan Army successfully thwarted the attack. However, 16 soldiers were martyred in this battle.
The attempt, as per the ISPR, was effectively thwarted by troops and in the ensuing fire exchange, eight militants were killed.
Terrorist attacks have been rampant in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces of Pakistan.
The country has been reeling from increased terrorist attacks since the return of the Taliban government in neighbouring Afghanistan and the two adjoining provinces are the worst-hit.
