Pakistan’s Senate Adopts Resolution Denouncing Bajaur Terror Attack

ISLAMABAD: The Senate of Pakistan on Thursday passed a unanimous resolution expressing grief over the a of bomb blast in the Dama Dola area of Bajaur yesterday that killed former Senator Hidayatullah and his colleagues.

The resolution was presented by Senator Kamran Murtaza. The session was started at the Parliament House with Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani in the chair.

The upper house of the parliament was informed that the government was seriously working on converting agricultural tube wells of Balochistan to solar energy.

Minister for Energy Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, responding to a question during question hour said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has given strict orders in this regard. He said the strategy will also help address the issue of line losses.

Answering another question, Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar said a lawmaker gets a monthly salary of 170,000 rupees after the deduction of taxes, while the remuneration of a judge of the superior judiciary is not less than one million rupees.

The House also passed “The Election (Amendment) Bill, 2024,” after making retired judges of High Courts eligible for appointment as members of the Election Tribunals.

In the year 2023, through the Elections (Amendment) Act, 2023, an amendment was made in section 140 to make only the serving Judge of a High Court a member of the Election Tribunal. However, due to the workload of High Courts, it is very difficult for the serving Judges of the High Courts to spare the required time for swift judgement of election petitions.
