Pakistan’s Senate Demands Severe Punishment for Anti-Armed Forces Propaganda

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Senate, the upper house of the country’s Parliament, on Monday unanimously passed a resolution calling for stringent punishment for people engaged in negative and malicious propaganda against Pakistan’s armed forces and security agencies.

Introduced by Senator Bahramand Khan Tangi, the resolution proposed a ten-year disqualification from holding any public office for those found guilty of such offenses. Recognizing the crucial role of a strong army and security agencies in the defense of the country, especially in the face of a hostile neighborhood, the resolution expressed deep concern over negative and malicious propaganda circulating on various social media platforms.

Moreover, the Senate unanimously adopted another resolution recommending government action to reform the Higher Education curriculum. The goal is to educate students about the consequences and risks associated with drug usage. The resolution emphasized the need for immediate steps to address the diverse cultural backgrounds of all students.

Senate Urged to Address Baloch Protests Demands

Several bills were introduced during the session, covering areas such as electronic crimes, criminal laws, constitutional amendments, medical and dental council regulations, fatal accidents, national excellence institutes, human trafficking prevention, civil servants, guardians and wards, service tribunals, general clauses, criminal procedure, commissions of inquiry, watersides safety in Islamabad, higher education commission, nursing council regulations, banking companies, and deposit protection corporation.

The Chair referred these bills to the relevant standing committees for further consideration.
