Pakistan’s Spin Bowler Sufiyan Muqeem Sets New T20I Record

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s left-arm spinner Sufiyan Muqeem etched his name in cricketing history by delivering the best bowling figures ever recorded by a Pakistani in T20I cricket.

In a remarkable performance during the second match of the three-game series against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo, Sufiyan claimed five wickets for just three runs in 2.4 overs, shattering former pacer Umar Gul’s long-standing record.

In the second T20I, Pakistan restricted Zimbabwe to 57 runs in 13 overs.

Sufiyan grabbed the wickets of Ryan Burl, Clive Madande, Tashinga Musekiwa, Wellington Masakadza, and Richard Ngarava in 2.4 overs for only three runs.

Earlier, this record was held by former pacer Umar Gul who took five wickets in three overs for five runs.

Furthermore, Sufiyan has also become the third Pakistani player to claim a five-wicket haul in the T20 format of cricket.

Who is Sufiyan Muqeem

Sufiyan Muqeem, born 15 November 1999 in Peshawar, is a Pakistani left-arm wrist spin bowler. According to PCB he has played for Peshawar Zalmi, Engro Dolphins, Pakistan Shaheens, Northern, Lahore Region Whites in domestic cricket.

He debuted in the T20 format on October 03, 2023, against Hong Kong at Hangzhou.

In July 2023, Muqeem finished with figures of 3 for 66 in his ten overs in the final as Pakistan A defeated India A to win the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup.

In October 2024, he played for the Pakistan Shaheens at the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup who were defeated in the semi-final by Sri Lanka A.
