Pakistan’s Squash Star Noor Zaman Registers Stunning Victory

ISLAMABAD: Playing an exciting and aggressive squash, Pakistan’s Noor Zaman has added another feather to his cap by clinching the International Squash Championship title in Islamabad.

In the final match which lasted for merely 29 minutes World no 82, toppled Pakistan’s former No. 1 and World no 85, Nasir Iqbal with a game score of 11-8, 12-10 and 11-9. Noor Zaman proved too dominating throughout the game.

The array of shots Noor unleashed was too brilliant and often left his opponent stunned.

The final of the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS)- International Squash Championship was held at Mushaf Complex in Islamabad, a press release said on Friday.

Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) in collaboration with a local hotel, organised the squash championship from November 18-22, 2024.

Apart from 9 Pakistanis player, 15 world-ranking players from Egypt, England, Hong Kong-China, Ireland, Kuwait, Malaysia and the Netherlands participated in the event.

Air Marshal Shakil Ghazanfar Deputy Chief of Air Staff presented trophies and souvenirs to the winner and other participants of the championship.

Noor Zaman in a post on X said Alhamdulillah, I am thrilled to share that I emerged victorious in the final held in Islamabad.

“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the PSF for their unwavering support Additionally, I thank my Coaches Parent’s friends and Family,” he said while expressing his joy over the glowing victory.

The young squash starer, Noor Zaman won the title of Under-19 Asian Junior Individual Squash Championship in 2022 and claimed a gold medal after beating Joachim Chuah from Malaysia 3-1 in the final at Pattaya, Thailand.

He is also the winner of the Borneo International Junior Squash Championship in Malaysia, quarter-finalist of the USA International Junior Squash Championship, semifinalist in the British Junior International Squash Championship at Birmingham, England, and winner Doha International Squash Tournament U17 at Qatar in 2019.
