Pakistan’s Steering Committee Reviews Progress on Outsourcing Country’s Airports

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Thursday chaired a meeting of the 10th Steering Committee Meeting on outsourcing Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore airports.

The meeting was attended by Minister for Defence and Aviation Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar, Secretary Aviation Saif Anjum, officials from the Board of Investment, Civil Aviation Authority, and a team from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), said a press release.

The IFC team presented a progress report on outsourcing Islamabad International Airport, noting that robust competition among various consortia comprising local and foreign investors is anticipated by July 15, 2024, which coincides with the bid closing date.

The steering committee also assessed advancements in outsourcing Lahore and Karachi airports, expressing contentment with the progress achieved thus far.

Under the outlined plan, the concession structure for these two airports is slated for completion by mid-August of this year.

The meeting concluded with optimistic expectations that the outsourcing of Islamabad International Airport will lead to elevated service standards and an enhanced customer experience, ultimately aligning with world-class standards.
