Pakistan’s Summer Drink ‘Sardai’

ISLAMABAD: As the scorching summer sun beats down, there’s nothing quite like a glass of Sardai to quench your thirst. This traditional drink has been a staple in many households for generations, and its popularity only grows with each passing summer.

Rizwan Ali, who often prepares traditional summer drink (Sardai) for customers at his roadside setup in Islamabad, shared traditional drink recipe with WE News.

He said, “To prepare this refreshing drink, we start by combining poppy seeds, almonds, black pepper, cumin, and fennel seeds. These ingredients are then ground together in a machine. Next, we add water and sugar to the mixture”.

Sardai is made with Poppy seeds, Almonds, Black pepper, cumin, and Fennel Seed, water, sugar. The ingredients are mixed together and chilled to perfection, creating a refreshing drink that’s sweet.

Rizwan Ali said that many people along with their families and friends visit his stall to enjoy this traditional drink. Talking to WE News, Muhammad Jamal said that he often visits this place along with their kids to spend a quality time.

He said that he gives priority to traditional foods and drinks due to many factors.

Mahnoor, a University student appreciated Sardai and urged people especially youth to visit this place if they want to beat heat in this summer.
