ISLAMABAD: In 2023, Swat Valley, renowned for its natural beauty, experienced a surge in tourism, welcoming a total of nearly half a million visitors, which included 4,000 foreigners from 108 countries.
Dr. Qasim Ali Khan, Deputy Commissioner and Director General of Upper Swat Development Authority, shared this information at a press conference held at the Swat Press Club.
Despite facing the aftermath of the super floods in 2002, Swat Valley witnessed a substantial increase in tourist arrivals compared to the previous year. The tourist destinations that attracted visitors included Malam Jabba, Gabin Jabba, Kalam, Bahrain, Mahodand, Madyan, Marghuzar, and other scenic spots.
Notably, over 4,000 foreign tourists from countries such as China, Australia, Afghanistan, Germany, and the United States explored various attractions in Swat.
Dr. Qasim Ali highlighted the collaborative efforts of the Upper Swat Development Authority, the police, and the district administration in boosting tourism. The authority is actively introducing new tourist destinations, enhancing infrastructure, and providing facilities to strengthen the tourism sector, thereby contributing to local livelihoods.
Ahmed Khan, Chairman of the Upper Swat Development Authority Board, expressed delight at the significant influx of tourists to Swat during the outgoing year.
