Pakistan’s Textile Exports Reach $9.738 Billion in Seven Months

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s textile exports totaled $9.738 billion during the first seven months of the current fiscal year (2023-24), Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported on Friday.

However, textile exports saw a decline of 2.99 percent from July to January compared to the same period last year, dropping from $10.038 billion to $9.738 billion.

Positive growth was observed in exports of raw cotton, increasing by 353.78 percent to $55.752 million, cotton yarn by 49.04 percent to $669.824 million, and towels by 2.29 percent to $596.203 million.

Conversely, negative growth was seen in exports of cotton cloth, down by 11.34 percent to $1.086 billion, cotton carded or combed by 37.19 percent to $0.595 million, and yarn other than cotton yarn by 17.19 percent to $21.658 million.

Bedware exports declined by 0.61 percent to $1.629 billion, tents, canvas, and tarpaulin by 5.21 percent to $70.258 million, and ready-made garments by 5.79 percent to $2.002 billion.

Art, silk, and synthetic textiles exports decreased by 12.33 percent to $209.723 million, made-up articles by 4.66 percent to $414.787 million, and exports of all other textile materials also dropped by 2.89 percent to $413.931 million.

Year-on-year, textile exports increased by 10.10 percent from $1.322 billion in January 2023 to $1.455 billion in January 2024. Month-on-month, exports grew by 3.98 percent compared to December 2023.

The trade deficit for July-December (2023-24) stood at $11.148 billion, marking a 34.29 percent decrease from the deficit of $16.965 billion during the same period in the previous fiscal year.

During this period, exports increased by 5.17 percent to $14.981 billion, while imports decreased by 16.28 percent to $26.129 billion, according to PBS data.
