Pakistan’s Textile Exports Surge by 5.37% During First Two Months of FY 24-25

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s textile exports have experienced a notable increase of 5.37% during the first two months of the 2024-25 financial year compared to the same period last year.

According to the latest figures from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), textile exports totaled $2,915.453 million in July and August 2024, up from $2,766.870 million in the same months of 2023.

This growth has been driven by several key textile sectors. Exports of cotton cloth rose by 7.23% to $322.654 million, compared to $300.913 million last year. Knitwear saw a significant increase of 7.15%, reaching $820.585 million from $765.797 million. Bedwear exports grew by 7.61% to $504.753 million, up from $469.049 million.

Towels experienced a 6.87% rise, with exports amounting to $170.766 million, compared to $159.784 million previously. Tents, canvas, and tarpaulin also saw a modest increase of 3.49%, reaching $19.577 million from $18.916 million.

Readymade garments showed remarkable growth of 17.85%, with exports rising to $658.499 million from $558.748 million. Art, silk, and synthetic textiles grew by 11.15%, totaling $61.244 million. Additionally, made-up articles (excluding towels and bed wear) increased by 5.10% to $119.386 million from $113.089 million, while other textile materials surged by 7.42% to $121.449 million from $113.058 million.

However, not all sectors saw positive trends. Cotton yarn exports fell sharply by 45.21%, dropping from $201.837 million to $110.588 million. The export of raw cotton saw a complete decline, falling from $3.073 million to zero. Yarn other than cotton yarn also experienced a decrease of 10.54%, with exports falling from $6.653 million to $5.952 million.

On a year-on-year basis, textile exports in August 2024 increased by 12.99%, reaching $1,644.317 million compared to $1,455.219 million in August 2023. Month-on-month, exports rose significantly by 29.36% in August compared to $1,271.136 million in July 2024.

The data highlights a robust start to the year for Pakistan’s textile sector, reflecting substantial growth across several key areas despite challenges faced by certain segments.
