Pakistan’s Upper Parts Likely to Receive Rain from Thursday Till Sunday

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted a dust storm/thunderstorm, followed by rain in upper parts of the country from Thursday (May 16) till Sunday.

According to Met Office, due to the presence of high pressure in the upper atmosphere, heatwave conditions are also likely to develop over most parts of the country in Punjab and Sindh from May 21 and that might result in a severe heatwave with an increase in temperature from 23 till 27th May.

Due to the expected heatwave, the temperatures at day time are expected to remain 04 to 06 degrees Celsius above normal in Sindh and Punjab from May 21-23 and from 06 to 08 degrees Celsius from 23 to 27th May.

PMD further informed that the day temperatures are likely to remain 04 to 06 degrees Celsius above the normal in Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Baluchistan province from 21 to 27th May.

Met Office further informed that a shallow westerly wave was likely to affect upper parts of the country on May 16.

Temperature in Pakistan

PMD stated that in view of the same weather system, dust storm/thunderstorm with isolated rain are expected in Baluchistan including Quetta, Ziarat, Zhob, Sherani, Barkhan, Kalat, Khuzdar, Qila Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Kharan and Mastung from Thursday evening till Sunday (May 19).

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), dust storm/thunderstorm with isolated rain is expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Malakand, Waziristan, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Karak, Khyber, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan and Kurram from Thursday till Sunday.

In Gilgit-Baltistan/Kashmir, rain-wind/thunderstorm is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar), Kashmir (Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur) from Thursday evening till Sunday (May 19).

In Punjab/Islamabad, dust storm/thunderstorm with isolated rain is expected in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Sargodha and Mianwali from Thursday evening till Saturday (May 18).

In Sindh, dust storm/thunderstorm with isolated rain is expected in Sukkur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Larkana, and Dadu from Friday till Saturday.

PMD also urged the farmers to take precautionary measures regarding managing their crops accordingly.

PMD further informed that the Extreme dry/heatwave conditions may trigger bushfires/forest fires in the vulnerable areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Northeast Baluchistan.
