MAJD AL-KRUM: The Palestinian citizen of Israel was detained over a social media post which reportedly empathized with those killed in Israel’s strike on Rafah in Gaza, Arab media reported on Thursday.
The beauty store owner was blindfolded and her hands were zip-tied. She was released after questioning.
This is not the first time Palestinians in Israel have been arrested or detained for showing online support for Palestinians in Gaza.
In November the Israeli parliament amended a law criminalizing consumption of terrorist publications which limit freedom of speech and expression on social media. Under new law, a person can be punished with upto one year of imprisonment
At least 53 people have been killed in Gaza and 357 injured in the past 24 hours, the health ministry of the besieged territory says.
The Israeli military started its incursion into Rafah in early May despite international objections over the safety of Palestinian civilians sheltering in the city.
Since October 7 last year, Israel has launched a relentless bombardment campaign in Gaza killing at least 36,224 Palestinians, mostly women and children, according to the territory’s health ministry.
