RAMALLAH: Palestinian prisoners detained in Israeli prisons are preparing to launch an open-ended hunger strike commencing on September 14, with the primary objective of protesting against the Israeli-imposed restrictions.

The hunger strike, as stated in a released statement by the Palestinian Prisoner Society, intends to exert pressure on Israeli prison authorities to withdraw the various constraints currently placed on the detainees.

“The prisoners are demanding a complete rollback of all imposed restrictions,” emphasized the non-governmental organization.

New Restrictions on Palestinian Prisoners

On Friday, Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel’s far-right National Security Minister, introduced new regulations reducing the frequency of visits to Palestinian detainees from the West Bank to once every two months, as reported by the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper.

Approximately 1,600 Palestinian detainees are affected by these newly implemented restrictions.

Official data reveals that there are approximately 5,100 Palestinians incarcerated in Israeli prisons, encompassing 32 women, 165 children, and over 1,200 administrative detainees.
