Parliamentarians to Donate Salary to Quake Victims in Turkiye, Syria

ISLAMABAD: The Members of the National Assembly on Tuesday decided to donate their one-month salary to the quake victims in Turkiye and Syria.

Talking on a point of order during the Parliament’s Joint Session, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf MNA Rana Muhammad Qasim Noon proposed to donate the 1-month salary of all the members of the lower house of parliament to the earthquake-hit people in the brotherly countries.

Seconding the proposal, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Chaudhry Mahmood Bashir Virk said the earthquake-hit people were faced with a difficult time, therefore they must be helped out.

On the occasion, PTI MNA Ramesh Kumar Vankwani said “we must go beyond 1-month salary and support the quake-hit people with big financial assistance individually.

Raja Riaz Ahmad, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, said that it was a positive move as both the opposition and treasury benches had mutually agreed to donate their 1-month pay to the quake victims.

Meanwhile, Abdul Akbar Chitrali, Jamaat-e-Islami’s MNA, said he would prefer to donate his salary to Al-Khidmat Foundation which was already busy in welfare activities in Turkiye and Syria”.

At the conclusion of the debate over the matter, NA Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said the house had reached a consensus to donate 1-month pay to the quake victims of Turkiye and Syria except for Abdul Akbar Chitrali.
