Parts of Pakistan Brace for New Rain Spell

ISLAMABAD: The mercury plunged in Islamabad after being hit by heavy rain Tuesday morning as the country braces for a fresh four-day rain spell coupled with thunders and strong winds.

 

The Met Office has forecast that new heavy rain spell will impact many Punjab cities, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, lower Balochistan, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Islamabad.

 

A powerful westerly wave approached Pakistan and will gradually grip most of the country until Wednesday, the Met Office said. During this four-day rain spell, downpours may trigger landslides in hilly areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, and Galiyat.

 

The Met Department has warned travellers to exercise caution during the fresh rain spell.Many areas of the federal capital received rain on Tuesday, bringing a chill to the weather.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa cities of Peshawar, Mardan, Kurram, Swat, Dir, Malakand, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Balakot, Kohat, Waziristan, DI, Khan, and Bannu are likely to receive rain with thunderstorms.

 

Punjab cities of Lahore, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Kasur, Narowal, Mianwali, Sargodha, Jhang, Sialkot, Khushad, Bahawalnagar, Okara, Murree, Sheikhupura, Hafizabad, Galiyat, Potohar region, Mandi Bahauddin, Faisalabad and Toba Tek Singh will also be likely to receive rain coupled with strong winds.

 

Rain likely tonight  

 

Balochistan cities of Khuzdar, Turbat, Makran, Awaran, Panjgur, Ketch, Gwadar, Jiwani, Pasni Lasbela, Dalbandin, and Kalat are expected to receive rain tonight.

Dry weather is expected to prevail elsewhere in Pakistan.

 

The temperature of some major cities recorded this morning: Islamabad and Lahore are 15-degree centigrade, Karachi 19, Peshawar 16, Quetta and Muzaffarabad 11, and Gilgit and Murree 6 degree centigrade.
