ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) has said that it was identifying risky waste disposal sites near airports that could attract birds and result in an untoward incident of bird-plane collision.

“In accordance with the decisions of the Environmental Control Committee (ECC), the members visited Karachi’s Malir Cantonment and Memon Goth areas,” a news release said on Monday.

PCAA’s inspection team

The inspection teams were accompanied by the manager of Jinnah International Airport, the manager of Air-side, members of Sindh Solid Waste Management, Karachi Water & Sewerage Board, and Malir Cantonment Board officials.

The committee members directed the officials involved to do their part in lowering the risk factor by ensuring proper waste disposal to ensure smooth flight operations.

The airport manager called a detailed meeting of the ECC at the Air-side Office to discuss various strategies for effectively overcoming the problem.
