PCB Appoints Shahid Afridi as Interim Chairman of Selection Committee

LAHORE: Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has been appointed as interim Chairman of the Men’s National Selection Committee for the series against New Zealand, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said on Saturday.

According to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Abdul Razzaq, Haroon Rashid and Rao Iftikhar Anjum will also be the members of the panel.

Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board Najam Sethi welcomed the decision and said that the bold decision will enable them to produce a competitive side in the home series against the New Zealand cricket team.

He said that Shahid Afridi played all forms of cricket and there is no better cricketer than Afridi to understand the demands and challenges of the present-day cricket. The chairman PCB expressed confidence that Afridi will help to select the best and most deserving players for the upcoming cricket series.

Reacting to the development, Shahid Afridi said that the new assignment is an honor for him and will try his best to fulfill this responsibility. He said that he will convene a meeting of the committee and will share his plans with reference to the upcoming cricket matches.

Shahid Afridi played 398 ODIs, 27 Tests, and 99 T20I during his career. He was a member of the Pakistan cricket team that won the T20 World Cup in 2009.
