PCB Boss Throws Weight Behind Pakistan Cricket Team Ahead of T20I World Cup

LONDON: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has extended his unwavering support to the Pakistan cricket team ahead of the upcoming ICC T20I World Cup 2024, urging cricket fans to stand by the team whether they win or face defeat on the field.

The PCB Chairman said this while talking to the media at a dinner hosted by Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the UK Dr Mohammad Faisal in honor of the Green Shirts at Pakistan House, London.

Mohsin Naqvi emphasized the importance of backing the team regardless of the outcomes on the field. “Support the team and assure them that we are with you whether you win or lose,” he remarked.

The PCB Chairman stressed the need for unity and encouragement, especially during the upcoming month, which he described as sensitive due to the highly anticipated T20I World Cup.

While discussing the team’s strategy and composition for the T20I World Cup, Mohsin Naqvi deferred to the discretion of the captain and team management, urging them to remain composed and deliver their best performances on the field.

Naqvi reiterated his call for unwavering support from fans. “Let us all support our players,” he emphasized.

The event was attended by notable figures including London Mayor Sadiq Khan, Pakistan’s former caretaker prime minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, Chief Minister Balochistan Sarfraz Bugti and a large number of Pakistani community living in the UK to express their pride in the Pakistani team. Mayor Khan singled out Babar Azam as his favorite player, praising him as a role model for aspiring cricketers. “Babar Azam is my favorite player, he is a role model,” the mayor said.

Pakistan cricket team is set to face England in the crucial T20I series match in the last encounter of the four-match T20 series against the hosts later today. With England currently leading 1-0 after a victory in the second T20, today’s fixture holds immense importance for the Green Shirts, especially as they prepare for the T20 World Cup, scheduled to commence on June 1.
