PESHAWAR: The Met Office on Monday predicted widespread rain and thunderstorms across much of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on September 3 and 4, with warnings of urban flooding in low-lying areas and potential landslides in hilly regions.  According to the Met Office, mainly cloudy and humid conditions are expected in most parts of the province over the next 24 to 48 hours.

Rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds, with isolated heavy downpours, are anticipated in districts such as Swat, Chitral, Dir Upper and Lower, Malakand, Buner, Shangla, Bajaur, Haripur, Kohistan, Torghar, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Mardan, Swabi, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Khyber, Kurram, Mohmand, Kohat, Hangu, Karak, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, DI Khan, Tank, and North and South Waziristan.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has alerted district governments that heavy rains could increase water levels in local streams and nullahs in areas like Galliyat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Kohistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Nowshera, and Swabi, potentially causing urban flooding in low-lying areas of Nowshera and Peshawar.

The PDMA also warned that landslides could block roads at vulnerable points in the hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during this wet spell, disrupting daily life and weakening structures.

Furthermore, PDMA has instructed deputy commissioners and relevant authorities to take precautionary measures to prevent loss of life and minimize property damage.
