PEMRA Bans Broadcast, Re-broadcast of Drama Serial ‘Hadsa’

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on Wednesday banned broadcast and re-broadcast of drama serial ‘Hadsa’ immediately under the relevant laws.

The objectionable content of the drama became the main reason for broadcast ban, said an official statement shared by the Authority on the social media platform X.

Advocate High Court Barrister Khadija Siddiqi has lodged a complaint through the Advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan Barrister Muhammad Ahmed Pansota against the subject drama serial and requested to take action under Section 27 of PEMRA Ordinance 2002 and other relevant provisions of law.

The statement said that PEMRA had also received many complaints from viewers with regard to the theme of the drama serial on its X Handle @reportpemra.

Criticism on drama’s storyline

The statement added that viewers are criticizing the theme of drama serial “Hadsa” based on a real incident took place at Lahore-Sialkot Motorway.

Moreover, public is of the opinion that portrayal of such heinous act will trigger the trauma of the unfortunate victim as well as would also tarnish country’s image world-wide and viewers abroad would perceive Pakistan as unsafe place for women, the notification further said.

PEMRA said the drama serial was monitored and its theme was very inappropriate, disturbing and not depicting a true picture of the society of Pakistan. It has created an uproar on social media and among the society. PEMRA being the regulator of the electronic media is being criticized for not acting.

The issue which based on the public anger and sentiments was submitted to the PEMRA for consideration.
