TASHKENT: People with disabilities have actively participated in the elections for deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and local Councils of Uzbekistan.
The participation of disabled persons in political processes is crucial for the country’s future.
The National Agency for Social Protection submitted a list of persons to the Central Election Commission with disabilities who are over 18 years old and eligible to cast a vote.
A number of arrangements have been made to ensure inclusivity for persons with disabilities to move independently at polling stations.
Members of the election commission visited the residences of home-based disabled voters to enable voting. Meanwhile, free transportation has been arranged in crowded areas for people in need of care.
Whereas specially equipped secret voting booths have been set up for persons who can independently visit the polling station.
Moreover, the National Agency for Social Protection has provided special assistance to ensure that polling stations are located on the ground floor of buildings.
It is pertinent to mention that Uzbekistan’s voter turnout in elections for the Legislative Chamber of the Supreme Assembly and local councils reached 62.7%, with 12.5 million citizens out of 19.9 million registered voters casting ballots.

The Central Election Commission’s Chairman, Bahrom Kuchkarov, shared these figures, highlighting the highest participation rates in Fergana (69.22%), Namangan (68.08%), and Jizzak (66.83%).
The elections, held under the theme “My choice is a prosperous Motherland,” reflect Uzbekistan’s growing socio-political engagement. Five political parties are in contention, with results anticipated on October 28.
