PESCO Severs 5816 Illegal Connections; 521 Power Pilferers Nabbed

PESHAWAR: As part of its ongoing efforts to combat power pilferage and tackle defaulters, the Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (PESCO) has removed 5816 illegal connections throughout the province.

In response to these actions, law enforcement authorities have arrested 521 individuals on charges related to power theft.

A spokesman for PESCO announced that the company had submitted numerous applications to the police, targeting more than 4932 individuals involved in electricity theft, resulting in over 2071 cases being filed against the accused.

Providing further details of the crackdown, the spokesman noted that 1249 illegal connections were dismantled in the Peshawar Circle, 1126 in the Mardan Circle, 841 in the Khyber Circle, 669 in the Swat Circle, 555 in DI Khan, and 550 in the Bannu Circle, in addition to the removal of direct hooks in Abbottabad, Swabi, and Mansehra circles.

Moreover, PESCO has imposed fines totaling over Rs 243.5 million on those involved in power pilferage. The spokesman encouraged the public to report electricity theft by calling 118. —APP
